What is kaolin?

Kaolin has a fine and soft texture, is easily dispersed in water, has a density of approximately 2.6 g/cm³, a Mohs hardness of 2.0 - 2.5, is resistant to high temperatures with a melting point of about 1750℃. After calcination, its chemical properties are stable, and it also has low electrical conductivity, a low coefficient of expansion, and certain adsorptivity. However, the raw ore contains impurities and has a large particle size, so it requires deep processing. The Superfine grinding mill plays a crucial role in this process.

Kaolin for paper coating grade: Kaolin with a fineness of D97 ≤ 10μm can improve the gloss of paper, making printed products have bright colors and clear images, and enhancing the opacity and whiteness of paper.

Raw material pretreatment: The raw kaolin ore contains impurities and has a high moisture content. First, it is washed with water to remove soluble impurities such as sediment, then processes such as flotation and magnetic separation are used to remove metal impurities such as iron and titanium and other harmful impurities. Finally, it is dried to a moisture content of less than 5%.

Coarse crushing stage: The pretreated kaolin still has a large particle size and needs to be coarsely crushed to less than 10mm using a jaw crusher or hammer crusher.

Ring roller mill grinding: The coarsely crushed kaolin enters the ring roller mill and is crushed into fine powder under the action of extrusion and shear forces between the grinding ring and the grinding roller.

Classification system: An internal or external classifier is used. The powder is screened through a high-speed rotating impeller. Coarse powder returns to the mill for further grinding, and qualified fine powder enters the collection device, which can precisely control the fineness of the finished product.

Finished product collection: Qualified fine powder is collected through a cyclone separator and a bag filter, and finally packaged and stored for transportation to various industries.
